Suzy and I had a wonderful time in San Francisco. We left early friday morning (ATL time) and landed in SF around noon. Although the BART system was a little confusing and very packed we finally made it to Union Square. We found our hotel and also discovered the guy checking us in was from Marietta. 5 minutes of reminiscing later, he hooked us up with probably the best hotel room we've ever stayed in. It was actually hard to leave the hotel room, we loved it so much. We finally pried ourselves away from the hotel and spent the rest of the day at the convention center. I think it was a fairly poor turnout this year so we spent alot of time just speaking to the other people manning the booths around us. When the show was over we went down to Fisherman's wharf to pick up our race packets and eat. We at a place called Ipolitos and shared a dungeness crab/ avacado salad and risotto. It was really, really good. After a wild goose chase to find flip-flops (our feet hurt so bad), we caught one of several trolley rides (probably the only one Suzy enjoyed).
Saturday was mainly spent at the convention center, though we did do a bit of shopping before and after show times. We ate carbs served by a very surly waiter and then I had to go to a reception and editor's dinner. Suzy stayed at the hotel and watched all the folks going to the Irish Founder's ball. They were having quite a good time.
Sunday was the day of the half marathon. We got up early and actually had to wake up a very peeved taxi driver to take us to the pier. The race was very challenging, but well worth it. I am super proud of Suzy and how well she did. Once we had cooled down from the race we spent about an hour walking around trying to find a taxi to the hotel (the trolley was down), we were not happy campers. Did you know Taxi cabs replace their brakes every month in SF? After showers and propping our feet up for a bit we went to the convention center for the last very dead day of the conference. We hopped on a trolley with the meanest driver every and went to the Washington Park area. Although Suzy did not get to see the Father she had met on our last trip we did get to the see the church. We then sat down to the best Italian food EVER. I had gemelli and Suzy had tortellini. We tried our best to stay awake after dinner, even stopping to buy coffee, but we couldn't make it anymore and ended up passing out in our room around 9 PM.
Monday we went out for a very long walk to the financial district and had an amazing California breakfast. Before we knew it is was time to say goodbye to the city by the bay. I have to say, of all the trips I have taken with Suzy, this is my all time favorite.
Things I miss already:
The Trolley bells
The Delicious lady staring at us
Double headed showers
Surly Servers
Crowds of People everywhere you went
Risotto
Mr. Square Head
Avacado on everything
Sea Lions
Fancy Schmancy stores
all the hills
and spending time with Suzy
