UGA vs. Auburn - BLACKOUT

Suzy and Danny watching UGA kick Auburn's butt

The entire stadium wore black. It was the coolest game I've ever been to

Suzy and her friend

Wow, what a game! UGA beat Auburn !!!! Whoo hoo! We had originally decided not to go but Suzy and the Youngs convinced us we didn't want to miss out. I haven't seen that many People in Athens in quite a while. There were war eaglets everywhere. We got to the stadium and got to watch the Dawgs come out in their awesome black jerseys. They played Back and Black by AC/DC and the stadium rocked. Although the Dawgs sputtered a little bit it was a really solid win. The crowd was insane, our section did not sit down the entire game. Go Dawgs!!!

US Half Marathon 2007

6:30 AM The Start
Suzy wasn't quite as nervous as I was. In fact I think she was ready to go. Unfortunately, she forgot both her timing chip and watch so was totally unaware of how long she had been running. I think that might have been to her advantage in the long run. I decided to go without my ipod, it was rough but much more fun to be able to talk to the people around you.

Not sure who this guy is, but he sures seems to be enjoying his bagel

Ready to go 13.1 miles!

We ran way over there!

Suzy post race. She did the half marathon in 2:30 and looks ready to do another half!

So freaking happy to be finished. Just under 3 hours.

The race was awesome. It's taken a couple of days to be really excited about what we did. We came off practically no training ( we had only run 5 miles previously) and finished the half- marathon. The weather was amazing and the views off the Golden Gate bridge were simply breathtaking. We ran through the Presidio, across the Golden Gate and then back to Fisherman's Wharf. I met quite few inspiring people along the way and was amazed at how fast the race walkers actually walk. (A few left me in the dust). After the soreness and achey feet heal I know this is one race I'll never forget. Suzy is all ready to tackle a marathon, and I want to do one before I'm 40, so next stop 26.2 miles.

Nice pointy eyebrow Suzy!!
Suzy and I had a wonderful time in San Francisco. We left early friday morning (ATL time) and landed in SF around noon. Although the BART system was a little confusing and very packed we finally made it to Union Square. We found our hotel and also discovered the guy checking us in was from Marietta. 5 minutes of reminiscing later, he hooked us up with probably the best hotel room we've ever stayed in. It was actually hard to leave the hotel room, we loved it so much. We finally pried ourselves away from the hotel and spent the rest of the day at the convention center. I think it was a fairly poor turnout this year so we spent alot of time just speaking to the other people manning the booths around us. When the show was over we went down to Fisherman's wharf to pick up our race packets and eat. We at a place called Ipolitos and shared a dungeness crab/ avacado salad and risotto. It was really, really good. After a wild goose chase to find flip-flops (our feet hurt so bad), we caught one of several trolley rides (probably the only one Suzy enjoyed).
Saturday was mainly spent at the convention center, though we did do a bit of shopping before and after show times. We ate carbs served by a very surly waiter and then I had to go to a reception and editor's dinner. Suzy stayed at the hotel and watched all the folks going to the Irish Founder's ball. They were having quite a good time.
Sunday was the day of the half marathon. We got up early and actually had to wake up a very peeved taxi driver to take us to the pier. The race was very challenging, but well worth it. I am super proud of Suzy and how well she did. Once we had cooled down from the race we spent about an hour walking around trying to find a taxi to the hotel (the trolley was down), we were not happy campers. Did you know Taxi cabs replace their brakes every month in SF? After showers and propping our feet up for a bit we went to the convention center for the last very dead day of the conference. We hopped on a trolley with the meanest driver every and went to the Washington Park area. Although Suzy did not get to see the Father she had met on our last trip we did get to the see the church. We then sat down to the best Italian food EVER. I had gemelli and Suzy had tortellini. We tried our best to stay awake after dinner, even stopping to buy coffee, but we couldn't make it anymore and ended up passing out in our room around 9 PM.
Monday we went out for a very long walk to the financial district and had an amazing California breakfast. Before we knew it is was time to say goodbye to the city by the bay. I have to say, of all the trips I have taken with Suzy, this is my all time favorite.
Things I miss already:
The Trolley bells
The Delicious lady staring at us
Double headed showers
Surly Servers
Crowds of People everywhere you went
Risotto
Mr. Square Head
Avacado on everything
Sea Lions
Fancy Schmancy stores
all the hills
and spending time with Suzy
